I believe this will, at worst, destroy the medal data if you don't do this correctly. If you explore the medals section with the codes on, they'll say there's 0 medals, but this is just graphical error that will be repaired after you get done with all the steps, and can safely turn off the codes. Once you've met the battling conditions, you can safely turn off the codes and reset, without the codes enabled, and still be able to view the medals.
